Benue State in the news: Ten things trending in Benue this weekend

 Good morning, here are ten things you need to know in Benue State this weekend.
1.  We are starting today’s summary on a sad note. Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday attacked a Benue community in  Shengev district of Gwer West Local Government Area  (LGA) killing eight  persons  while hundred others have been displaced.
The communities; Tse-Agbulu, Tse-Atakpa and Tse-Abichi among others were besieged by the marauders with sporadic gunshots while many were wounded and dispossessed of their belongings.

2. Benue State Governor-elect, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, on Thursday visited the All Progressives Congress, APC, Volunteer Ladies, Ankpa Quarters, Makurdi to sympathize with them on the loss of their member, the late Miss Dorcas Aluamo Kwaghvihi.

The deceased lost her life in a motor accident along Makurdi-Otukpo Road near Midway Inn a day after the group paid a courtesy call on Chief Dr Ortom.
The late Miss Kwaghvihi, an NCE holder who became a tailor after graduation, was also part of the delegation that visited the Governor-elect.
3. St Mark Golf and Country Club, Akpegede, Otukpo in Benue State was established by Senate President, David Mark, to develop the community.
This revelation was made by the captain of the club, Hon. Owoicho Abel Anyebe, in an exclusive chat during Pa Mark Memorial Tournament.
Anyebe said that the Senate President did not just establish the golf course, but had also established a golf academy which admits Otukpo kids and youth into the game.
According to him, “The people of Otukpo and the entire Idoma nation are benefitting from this golf course established by David Mark.
4. Idoma proud son and a Deputy Controller of  Nigerian Prisons Service, Chief Peter Amede Okpe, on Friday bagged the chieftaincy title of Omeroha 1 of Okirikama in Imo State.
The event was graced by family, friends and well-wishers.
5. The Federal High Court said on Friday that it did not make any  order to freeze the accounts of Benue and Plateau state governments as reported in some sections of the media.
It was widely reported on May 12 that Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Abuja division of the court ordered the freezing of the accounts of the two states in his ruling on separate garnishee applications filed against them by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria.
Chief Registrar of the court, Mrs. Rosemary Oghoghorie, told journalists in her office in Abuja that the order of the court which was misrepresented in the media only restrained the two state governments from touching certain amount of money in the  state accounts.
6. Benue State Governor-elect, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, during disclosed that he had made a strong promise with himself and God never to steal government money if elected governor of the state.
He made the disclosure during interactive sessions with religious groups who visited him at his Makurdi residence during the week.
7. The prosecution of the Sadiq Ogwuche, implicated in the Nyanya motor park bombing on 14 April 2014, was stalled during the week due to the absence of a prosecution witness, an operative of the Department of State Services.
Ogwuche was arraigned alongside five others, Ahmed Abubakar, Mohammed Ishaq, Yau Saidu, Anas Isa and Adamu Yusuf.
The Nyanya motor park bomb blast, in the early morning rush hour, led to the death of scores of people with several vehicles destroyed.
8. In the world of sports, Taraba United have denied reports they are interested in hiring erstwhile Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, as their new head coach, completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The former Nasarawa United and Enyimba coach was spotted at the Jolly Nyame Stadium during last weekend’s 3-3 Nigeria Premier League draw between Taraba United and Gabros United, prompting speculations that he was in line to be recruited by the club.
9. Benue club Apa United have withdrawn from the Nigeria Nation-Wide League (NNWL).
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed on its official website that Apa United were withdrawn from the third tier for failing to honour their first match of the season against Dreams International FC.
The failure of Apa United to turn up for the opening game flouts the rule book of the NNWL, according to the league’s executive secretary Olushola Ogunnowo.
No reason was given for the club’s sudden withdrawal from the league.
