The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has honored twelve (12) of its men for effecting the arrest of an armed robber at the NAF check point in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Presenting the letter of recommendation to the Airmen, the Commander, 35 Base Service Group, Air Commodore Olusesan Alani Idowu commended them for their gallant stride at a time when armed robbery, terrorism and cultism was plaguing the country.

According to Alani, the armed robber whose name was given as Emeka Joseph who claimed to be an ex-service man with the Nigerian Army with service number 12NA/68/6758 was arrested at the NAF checkpoint along Gboko Road, Makurdi on June 21, this year.
“He was caught with a stolen Toyota Sienna bus with registration number LSD524AE which he had snatched from a lady by name, Mrs. Susan Audu who closed from church service along modern Market road in Makurdi.”

Alani explained further that the armed robber sped through the first checkpoint before the Nigerian Air Force Base, Makurdi but was later arrested at the second checkpoint after the Base main gate.
A locally made revolver pistol with eight rounds of 9mm ammunitions, a Nokia cell phone, a bunch of keys, some amount if money as well as two copies of forged medical papers as well as a sienna bus were recovered from the dare devil robber.

The Commander who said the robber and the recovered items were later handed over to the special anti-robbery squad of the Nigerian police at the NAF Base where one ASP Abu Francis signed for them expressed surprise that the police later told newsmen that the robber was arrested at a police checkpoint near the NAF Base.

“I personally called the Commissioner of Police and he sent his men to come. The robber was detained here in the base and the bus was packed in our Base until we decided to hand everything over to the police. One ASP Abu Francis from the Special Anti Robbery Squad was the one who signed and took the armed robber and other recovered items away.”
