United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has embarked on the construction of 100-two room unit shelter support project for internally displaced people in Daudu in Guma local government area of Benue State.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the site alongside top officials of the commission, UNHCR representative in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Angele Dikongue-Atangana, disclosed that the project was a pilot one which would soon be replicated in the North-east of the country.

She said that a unit of the two rooms apartment cost only N95, 000 and that the project was necessitated by the large number of internally displaced people who have no roof over their heads.

According to her, there was dilemma as to how the commission can manage all displaced people to ensure that it doesn’t degenerate into many people becoming destitute and that the idea was conceived to provide shelter for those that had lost everything.
