Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday evening joined the Muslim community in Benue State to break the fast to end the Ramadan season.
He also expressed excitement that for the first time Christians in the state had joined Muslims at the ceremony.

"This is true change; for the first time the Muslim community had invited Christians to breakfast together with them," he noted.
"I'm glad at what I'm witnessing, it's a good beginning and I'm praying that God will unite us the more."

According to him there were so many similarities between Islam and Christianity and urged adherents of the two religions to build on the things that unite rather than those which separate.
Governor Ortom stated that both religions also teach that salvation was a personal and not group experience and appealed that all strive to develop a personal relationship with God.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Benue State, Bishop Yiman Orkwar stated that it was the first time that adherents of the two faiths had come together for such an event in the state and expressed hope that the development would be sustained.

Representative of the leader of the Muslim community, Alhaji Mustapha Garba, stated that Christians and Muslims in the state were also the first to sign a peace accord to coexist peacefully.
