A Benue state House of Assembly member, Mattew Ire, representing Oju 2 state constituency has been sacked by a federal high court sitting in Markurdi, Benue state.
Ire was sacked by Justice Binta Nyako on the grounds of illegal substitution by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the party primaries claiming the name of the actual winner of the primaries was substituted with Ire, who did not score the highest votes as the  winner.
The Judge ordered Ire be immediately removed from his seat, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), withdraw the certificate of return given to him and issued a certificate of return to Micheal Adigwu.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, Ire went up against Agi Micheal Adigwu and Jairus Erube during the PDP House of Assembly primaries on November 29, 2014.

Ire was announced winner polling 10 votes while Adigwu and Erube polled 11 votes and five votes respectively. Despite the scores the PDP declared Ire winner of the primaries.
Ire went on to win the general election and was issued the certificate of return by INEC but Adigwu challenged the result at the court.
