Sad story of a Benue boy who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Makurdi

A young man, simply identified as Ortoho Desmond was recently killed b a heartless hit-and-run vehicle while crossing road in Abakwa area of Benue State.

It was gathered that when the young man was hit by the moving monster, the driver fled, leaving him crying in pains and pool of blood.

Narrating how Ortoho could not survive the incident, a bereaved friend, Shie Odimámá Aondoakaa, said instead of sympathizers to take him straight to a standard hospital, they went to the police station to report the case while the boy was bleeding internally.

He said on getting to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Ortoho was confirmed dead on arrival.

His account below.

Today, I learnt about the death of my Mbagen brother, a young man I became familiar with in the course of my campaign for Hon. Joseph Ityav in the last General Elections. He was faithful to our cause.
I called home to know how he met his untimely and cruel death. I am very angry after getting the details of his death.

I was told that after the car knocked him down around Abakwa while crossing the road, he was rushed to Abwa Hospital. There, they directed that he should be taken to the Teaching Hospital, Makurdi because the critical state of his condition was beyond them.

My question here is, why not NKST Rehabilitation Hospital (Mbaamandev) or any other standard hospital in Gboko that was closer, why Makurdi?

Ok, as if that was not senseless enough, these people took this boy to Buruku Police Station to report the case before heading to Makurdi. All these while, the boy was in pains and was bleeding internally. They arrived BSUTH but he died an hour later.

How do our people reason? Why take someone in such a critical condition to the police station to report before heading to the hospital? Is accident also a crime now to require a police permit for treatment? I feel so terrible about his death.

Five hours inbetween the time he was knocked down and when he died in Makurdi! Somehow, I feel his death could have been avoided. Kai, rest on bro Ortoho Desmond, may God bless your soul!
