SO FAST! Embezzlement scandal rocks Benue State Ministry of Finance

The Benue State Ministry of Finance today denied charges of graft levelled against some of its staff on social media platforms.
Governor Samuel Ortom had directed the Permanent Secretary and Accountant General in the Ministry to investigate allegations that their staff were collecting between five hundred and one thousand naira to prepare vouchers for those whose names had been omitted.
But the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Ruth Ijir, in a statement, denied the charges and urged those with proof to step forward.
“The Ministry of Finance has noticed with dismay reports on the social media of alleged collection of money from certain people for biometric capturing,” she stated.

“This information, statement and comments, particularly the slant in the reporting is based largely on mischief and highly inappropriate. The report is aimed at smacking the responsibility and integrity of the Ministry of Finance to the people and Government of Benue State, and to cause disaffection between the people of our State and the Ministry of Finance, this is uncalled for.”

The Permanent Secretary tasked those with evidence to back up their allegation to do so, or otherwise desist from spreading what she described as misleading and defamatory information.

“The Ministry is disposed towards punishing undesirable element among the Ministry’s workforce, if there are any, she stated, adding that ” the Ministry of Finance operates under strict rules and without fear or favour. To assume that the Ministry indulges in some form of unwholesome practices is misleading.”
Mrs Ijir stated that in spite of the allegations the ministry was still poised toward delivering effective service to the Government and people of Benue State.
