FUTA organizes one day counselling programme for students with academic challenges

In its bid to promote academic excellence among the teeming students' populace, the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) on Tuesday, 11th June, 2015 at Professor Theodore Idibiye Francis Auditorium organized a-day counseling programme for students with academic challenges. 

The programme was aimed at inspiring, advising and motivating students with myriad of academic challenges in the university to become an academically sound mind, was declared open by Dr. Boniface Kayode Alese, the Dean of Students' Affairs who applauded the initiative of the Staffs of the Students' Affairs Division of the institution for organizing the programme.
He admonished the students to sit tight academically by reading their books and understanding themselves when they are studying using his story as a case study.

The Vice Chancellor, represented by Professor Tunde Arayela, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics. In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor said " Students must be sound to come out in flying colors. If you are suffering from any challenges, the Counseling unit is well-equipped so students can visit them."

Mrs. O.A Olusanya, a staff in the Students' Affairs of the citadel of learning, in her lecture titled 'Decisions that Enhance Academic Success' said "Passion is magical. It creates motivation, determination and perseverance. It gets you up in the morning, it energizes your day and it pushes you to the best of your ability. Going to university is a huge sacrifice and it worth it"

Moreover, Mr. Damilola Adamolekun, in his lecture implored the students to identify the obstacles they encountered last semester (session) that hindered their academic success so that they can forge a path ahead. He stated "Failure is not final. The final product of failure is the raw material of success those who never fail may never know how to succeed"

While discussing further on the effective study skills, Mrs. F.T Adetunji also urged the students to make their goals specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound and they must be close to God.

A student of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering who pleaded anonymity, appreciated the efforts and unflinching support of the management for organizing the programme. He however pledged to be outstanding in his academics in the current semester and beyond.

The well-attended programme had in attendance the Registrar of the institution represented by Mr. Arifalo, Director of Human Resources; University librarian; Students' Affairs Officer of the Federal University of Technology Akure; Mrs. B. Owelle; staffs of the university and numerous students.
