There was drama yesterday at the Benue State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Makurdi when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State defended the legitimacy of the membership of Governor Samuel Ortom in the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the governor formally resigned from the PDP before joining the APC.
The chairman of PDP in Nzorov ward of Guma local government area, Hon. Felix Agbaka testified before the governorship tribunal yesterday and tendered the resignation and admittance letters before the court.

This is even as Ortom has closed defence at the Governorship Elections Tribunal, yesterday. He told the tribunal that he resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress on 9th December, 2014.

PDP governorship candidate, Terhemen Tarzoor had dragged Ortom to the tribunal challenging the legitimacy of the APC membership of the governor and prayed that the governor’s election be nullified.

Yesterday at tribunal, lawyer to Ortom, Israel Olorundare (SAN) cross-examined the former PDP chairman of Nzorov ward, Felix Agbaka and current APC Nzorov ward chairman in Guma local government area, Adikpe Ukuremo Ezekiel who testified for Ortom at the tribunal.
The PDP ward chairman, Agbaka tendered the Governor’s resignation letter from the PDP which he said he received on 9th December, 2014.

The APC Nzorov ward chairman further testified that he registered Governor Ortom on the same date and issued him a membership card. He also identified the letter he had written to the local government party chairman.

The ward chairman who identified both the card and register also stated that he wrote to the local government chairman of the party notifying him about what he described as the big catch and later took the party register to the state secretariat.

The Tribunal chairman, Elizabeth Karatu admitted the tendered documents and adjourned the sitting to Thurday, 6th August, 2015 for defense by INEC.
