The Benue state House of Assembly yesterday suspended the Caretaker Chairman of Gwer Local Government Area of the state, Mr Dele Uzuku over the flaunting of the governor’s directives on payment of salaries.

Governor Samuel Ortom had reported to the assembly on the non-compliance of the council boss to pay adequate salaries of workers. The council chairman had paid salaries and contract arrears to political stakeholders without compliance to prompt payment of salaries as directed by the governor.

Recall that the caretaker chairmen in the state were directed to commence payment of current salaries and not arrears but instead of complying with the directive, Uzuku decided to pay the arrears of Nov 2011 to the staff of Gwer Local Government Council.
In their contributions, Mr Benjamin Adanyi, Terhemba Chabo and Joseph Ojobo, said that the chairman should be sanctioned for flaunting the directives of the governor.
Mr Ianna Jato, member representing (Katsina-Ala/PDP), stated that fair hearing was not given to the chairman to explain why he acted contrary to the governor’s directive.
