The caretaker Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government, Barr. Chris Idu has described claims that he was under the influence of certain “overlords” as unfounded, false, baseless and malicious.
The chairman was responding to a post on social media by one, Akioyamen Josephine purporting that his administration was under pressure from someone who was bent on controlling it’s affairs.

My attention has been drawn to an online publication captioned “Attention Okpokwu” posted on the Facebook wall of Akioyamen Josephine in which she insinuated that me and my administration are under pressure from a certain “overlord” who is bent on controlling the affairs of my administration from outside the local government.
This insinuation is not only unfounded, false, baseless and malicious but also a calculated attempt to cause disaffection amongst the good people of Okpokwu and our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) on whose mantra of CHANGE we rode into office.
To put the record straight, me and my administration are not under any form of pressure or influence from any “overlord” either external or within Okpokwu Local Government Area.
Our loyalty is to our amiable Governor, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom and his able Deputy, His Excellency Engr. Benson Abounu and our great party, the APC.
Since the assumption of Office of this administration two months ago, the administration of His Excellency Dr Samuel Ortom has ensured that we deliver the dividend of democracy to our people free from all hindrances.
In just two months, our administration in addition to effectively pursuing the Change Agenda of Governor Ortom’s Administration has also spelt out four key areas of intervention in the Local Government which includes: Staff Welfare, Revenue Generation, Security and Infrastructural Development.
To achieve these four targets, our administration has on assumption of Office ensured that the payment of staff salary remains uppermost on our agenda. We have also carried out the screening of staff to weed out ghost workers and to determine the actual staff strength of the Council.
To instill discipline in our staff, our administration introduced Attendance Register to detect truant staff both within the secretariat and our Out Stations. This has greatly improved staff attendance and commitments to duty. As we speak, all our six Area Offices which have not been in existence for the past seventeen years have all been re-opened and staff posted to ensure service delivery to the grassroot.
Furthermore, to ensure accountability in revenue generation, we are rigorously closing all revenue leakages and ensuring proper accountability of our Revenue Staff by ensuring that all revenues earned by government are paid to the Revenue Account of the Local Government.
We are also intervening in the Eke-Ogege Road which as a result of flooding has completely cut off over 28 communities from the rest of Okpokwu. Through Direct Labour, Survey works on the road was done and immediate intervention is on going.
We are also re-roofing two office blocks within the Council secretariat accommodating the Education and Agriculture Departments which had completely collapsed due to continuous rainfall.
As we speak, the Ugbokolo market which had not enjoyed any sanitary improvement for the past four years is now wearing a new look due to the clean up exercise carried out by our administration.
Only recently, our administration convened a Security Council meeting in which far-reaching decisions were taken to re-organize our vigilante group and ensure inter-Agency cooperation among our security outfits to ensure security of lives and properties.
Our farmers who are now enjoying subsidy on fertilizer from His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom’s Administration at the price of N4,000.00 per bag got a further reduction in the price by our administration to N3,800.00 per bag to support the noble initiative of the Governor.
All these we have achieved in just two months in the life span of this administration because we enjoy absolute freedom and support from Governor Ortom’s administration and  support of the good people of Okpokwu L.G.A.
In conclusion therefore, we wish to urge the public to completely disregard the publication in its entirety as it does not reflect the true position of happenings in the Local Government under my watch. We further wish to enjoin all Okpokwu sons and daughters to continue to give support to His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom and His able Deputy Engr Benson Abuonu who are committed to taking Benue State to the promised land.
Barr. Chris Idu, Caretaker Chairman, Okpokwu LGC
