With a friend like Imelda J

Look at me now.
This is me again.
I am back to the brook of Ogbanjire.
I am here, right here with basket of thanks and tears.

Here I come before you,
Thou fearless brook of Aroga
To watch you dance to the rhythm of the wind.
I present to you your unseen son
Fathered by the wall gecko
Before the dawn of this selfish day

I come to thank you
Yes, to thank you for the gift of a friend
A friend whose voice has denudated my pains

My ancestors, thank you for my friend
And sister, Imelda J
Whose voice has brought me out of Moab,
The land of pains and tears
Thank you, thank you!

Don't I deserve to laugh, at least for now?
Don't I deserve to bob and tell my pains
And tears: to hell with you?
At least, for now?

Yes, I have every reason to beam again
I can grab my pillow, tap my phone, and
Listen to that soothing voice like a zephyr
'Nmo oyine, olebeko lalo igboha mene.'

This is a line from a song released by my long time friend and sister, Imelda Jane Adah Okwori, famously known as Imelda J in honour of my late 'twin' brother, Ameh Jerry.

On February 6, 2015, death declared war on me.
He came like the roaring lion seeking for whom he may devour.
Of course, he succeeded, albeit partially,
Took away the flesh,
Leaving the soul for its maker

'Tell Comrade it is critical'
That was his last word
That was it, and my Prince dropped the golden pen
Away to the land of no return

For 242 days, I was in tears
I cried all night that tears flowed into my ears
Tears was my middle name.
Sorrow was my craddle
Pains my blanket

Just suddenly, I saw the light
The light of music in my soul
Yes, music is soul food.
Now, I can eat it and tell my soul
It is well, even in the well.

Friendship is the complete explanation of what a Cheetah Girl is - if you have that true friendship, you can conquer anything you want, Sabrina Bryan once wrote.

For my sister, Imelda J, she's an epitome of a true friend.
A friend who is truer than the truest.

I am penning this to thank you for remembering me in the midst of my pains and tears.

Thank you for giving me that soul food. Thak you for giving me very reason to laugh again.
Thank you for giving me that soul food has no expiry date.

With a true friend like you,
I can conquer my fears, pains and tears

With my prophetic eyes,
I can see Jerry dancing with the celestial saints to your song.
Thank you and may tears and pains never know your address.

Anya chooo.
