Three Governors and several Senators from the northern part of the country yesterday vowed to deepen the relationship between the people of different sections of the region.
They made the pledge when the chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, accompanied by his Jigawa State counterpart, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, paid a condolence visit on Senator George Akume.
The Senator lost his elder brother and paramount ruler of Tarka, the late Chief Gabriel Indyer Akume.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, who received his colleagues at the Benue Peoples House led them to Senator Akume’s house at the Judges Quarters in the state capital.

He said the visit of the Governors with several Senators from their states had rekindled ties which political leaders from the region had with one another, particularly that of the late Senator J S Tarka who provided a platform for the late Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim from Borno State to contest and win election in the former Tiv Native Authority.
Governor Shettima expressed happiness with the fraternity and pledged that political leaders from the area would work to sustain it at all costs.
He said the people of the area had a lot in common particularly poverty which runs throughout the religion and that they needed to come together to overcome it.
In his response, Senator Akume said the visit brought comfort to him on account of the assurance that he had friends who could stand by him in his hour of need.
