Recall that the late Tor Tiv whose first son had married the Governor’s daughter had been embroiled in a sort of cold war following insinuation that the traditional ruler was being partisan during the elections that eventually produced Ortom as governor of the state.

Ortom who made the disclosure at Prayer Pilgrimage for Peace organized by the Catholic Dioceses of Makurdi, Gboko and Katsina-Ala, held at the St John the Baptist Cathedral, in Gboko explained that after their encounter which took place shortly on his assumption of office, he requested permission from the paramount ruler and also summoned second class traditional rulers in Tivland and reconciled with them as well.

The Governor disclosed further that during the reconciliation meeting, he requested those involved to put the past behind them and start afresh with the undertaking that traditional rulers would henceforth disengage from partisan politics.
Ortom however maintained that the land needed repentance, forgiveness, reconciliation and restitution because the people desired peaceful coexistence and integration with one another.
Also speaking, Leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Benue State and Senator representing Benue North West District, Dr. George Akume, called on traditional rulers and the clergy to shun partisan politics and be neutral so that they could continue to play advisory and conciliatory roles.

Akume also advised the Governor to reconstruct institutions in the state and make them stronger while also making sure that workers’ welfare is given a top priority throughout his tenure.

In his sermon, Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Peter Adobo, enjoined all the leaders in the land to promote peace, agriculture and vocational training as major revenue earners for the people.

His Gboko counterpart, Bishop William Avenya, expressed appreciation to those who made time to attend the occasion and enjoined that they schedule to attend it as a matter of routine each year.
