The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nsukka zone, yesterday urged the federal government to carry out an investigation into the administrative and academic activities of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Abia State.
Executive members of the zonal ASUU at a news conference held in the Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to speedily look into the petition already brought before him by the union.

The acting coordinator of ASUU in the zone, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, lamented what he called "high-handedness, lack of respect for rule of law and non adherence to policies and practices" under Professor Hilary Edeoga as the vice chancellor.
The union accused Edeoga of impunity, recklessness and disregard for due process by charging outrageous fees of N60, 800 per bed space and failing to refund same to more than half of the students who couldn't secure accommodation.
While insisting that the university system must be run in line with set rules and regulations, the union stressed the need for the current political leadership to justify the mandate of the majority of Nigerians by promoting and deepening popular power.
