Otukpo, the traditional headquarters of Idoma nation and the capital of Benue South was practically shut down on Thursday when thousands of supporters of Dr. David Alechenu Mark thronged out enmasse to receive him.

The former Senate President who was coming home for the first time after the Court of Appeal in Makurdi nullified his election, arrived Otukpo into the waiting hands of Zone C enthusiasts and his supporters who cut across the 9 LGAs of the district. In what could be likened to the 'triumphant entry' in the bible, the people waited patiently at the Otukpo burnt bricks for several hours and gloriously moved in convoy with Senator Mark who was accompanied by Members of the National Assembly from Benue and other States.

Addressing the mammoth crowd in his country home, the elated Idoma Leader said he was overwhelmed by the large turn out from various LGAs and urged them to remain calm in spite of the "provocative" judgement of the Court of Appeal. "Your turn out today shows that the election shall be won and lost by Zone C people. Though the Court of Appeal has made its pronouncement; but I'm happy the Judges shall not take part in the voting process. This is not a PDP election; it's an Idoma election.

" This is indeed a trying period for us as a people! I encourage you to be strong and take it in your own hands; if not, we shall be forgotten in the map of Nigeria", Mark added. He therefore charged the people of Zone C not to be moved by the antics of "the enemies" who are envious of the progress of Idoma people but should take their destinies in their own hands as no one will dictate for the them. On his part, the leader of PDP in Zone C, Sir Moses Ajima said the good people of the Senatorial district should wake up to the challenges ahead by queueing behind the former Senate President.

"Nobody can take the mandate which was collectively given to our son", the Igede leader said. Also speaking, a political heavyweight from Ogbadibo LGA, Hon. Chris Adaba Abba (Mad Lion) said it was not possible for APC to win election in Zone C as the 4 House of Reps Members from the Senatorial district are from the PDP and 10 out of the 11 House of Assembly members are also PDP.

In their separate remarks, the State Chairman of PDP, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo; the immediate past Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro; PDP deputy governorship candidate in the last election, Hon. John Ngbede and Member representing Otukpo/Ohimini at the House of Reps who spoke on behalf of other National Assembly Members, Chief Ezekiel Adaji, enjoined the people to stand firm and fight the common fight which they described as " a fight between Idoma nation and those who do not want the progress of Idoma ".

Senator Mark was earlier received at the palace of Och'Idoma where the paramount ruler, HRH Agabaidu Elias Ikoyi Obekpa gave his royal blessings and offered the 'Okpokpowulu k'Idoma' the greenlight to go about his electioneering activities. The Och'Idoma who was embittered at the turn out of events lately said it was lack of unity and love among Idoma people that offered outsiders the opportunity to penetrate the hitherto united Idoma people.
