Good morning. Here are 10 things trending in Benue this morning
1. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has called on the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to prevail on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA to rehabilitate high ways in the state which have dilapidated.

He made the call when he received the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola who was in the state to inspect some federal government projects under his ministry.
2. A woman has reportedly killed her 4 years old daughter and dumped her body inside a well in  Gboko area of Benue State.

Sources said the little girl was allegedly murdered by her own mother and dumped inside a well at Tom-Anyiin Akaajime Gboko East. The suspect is currently on the run.
3. The Independent Electoral Commission has fixed February 20 for the Benue South senatorial rerun election.
The electoral umpire said the widely acclaimed February 13 date didn’t come from then.
Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in the state, Prof. Istifanus Dafwang disclosed that the rerun will hold February 20.
4. Music star and ex-member of the defunct Plantashun Boyz, Blackface has vowed to drag his kinsman and former band mate, Innocent Ujah Idibia to court over issue bothering of song theft.

Blackfaze broke the long silence in his latest single, Killah where he accused Tuface Wizkid and other singers of stealing his intellectual property without prior consent.

5. An attempt by a gang of four suspected kidnappers to kidnap the immediate past Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro and a housewife/business woman who is the wife of an INEC electoral officer has been foiled by the Nigerian police in Ugbokolo.

In a statement released through Jerry Agbo the Personal Assistant to the former Minister, Moro said the presence of the suspects led by a young man simply identified as Adoyi was first noticed by the eagle eyes of the Jericho road, Ugbokolo vigilante group.

6. Natives of Benue state have continued to  mourn the death of a professor of Theatre Arts, Benue state university, BSU, Mrs. Regina Odeh in a fatal auto mishap.

The late Professor of Theater Arts met her death along Abuja Makurdi where she had gone to attend an Inaugural lecture.

Many citizens of the state described the demise of Odeh as sad and painful.

7. Former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro has advised both National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom not to welcome the politicians who defected to their party recently in the state with open arms.
Speaking with newsmen in Otukpo yesterday, the former minister described the decampees as ‘Food is Ready’ politicians, saying “they are like Egypt that you see today and you shall see them no more tomorrow.”
He also emphasised that the forthcoming rerun election of Benue South senatorial district is about the Idoma people, adding that only the people can decide who their senator will be.

8. Ahead of the February  2016 Senatorial election for Benue South, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has raised alarm over the plot by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to unleash fake soldiers and Police in the area to manipulate the election.

State Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo alerted today that the APC  stakeholders  have started recruiting armed thugs who would disguise as Soldiers or Mobile police men to cover the election.
9. Governor Samuel Ortom has assured the academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions in Benue State, that the Government will address their demands as soon as finances of the state improve. He has therefore urged them to call off their strike to save the future of the students.
Governor Ortom who made the call when he met with officials of unions in the state tertiary institutions, said the State Government was worried about the non-payment of allowances owed staff of the tertiary institutions, attributing the delay to unavailability of funds.
10. Elder statesman and former Police chief, Alh Abubakar Tsav has challenged Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom to back up his theme of transparency, honest and accountability by publicly declaring his assets.
 
Alh Tsav who made the call in a press statement said anything short of a public declaration will amount to falsehood and urged the Governor to not just do so, but also encourage his appointees to follow suit.
