Benue South rerun: Why I listed Akume as my referee – Dan Onjeh

Written By Idoma Television on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 | 12:18:00 AM

The senatorial candidate representing APC in the forthcoming rerun in Benue South, Dan Onjeh as laughed off the story published by an online medium which claimed he listed former Benue State governor, George Akume as one of his referees.

Onjeh, while reacting to the publication in a statement by one of his team leaders, Eloyi Ogbe, described the story as cheap lie.
He said no amount of lies can stop his enthronement as the next senator of Benue South. He warned them to learn from Buhari victory.

See the full text of the statement:
Our attention has been drawn to a purported INEC form published on some online media claiming that Comrade Dan Onjeh used Senator Dr George Akume as one of his referees.

We are constrained to put the record straight here as this is one of the several futile efforts by the camp of the candidate of the smallest opposition party in the Benue South Senatorial district to run on sentiments because he has no record to show.

There is no doubt that both Comrade Dan Onjeh and Senator Dr George Akume belong to the same political party. As the leader of the party in the state, therefore, Senator Akume was logically positioned to stand as a referee for any candidate of the party in documents lodged with the INEC.

Does the team of Senator David Mark expect their drowning boss, Senator David Mark, to stand as a referee for a candidate in a different political party? If we go rake up the Senator’s forms in Abuja, you may be surprised to find that he used another member of his party who may not even be Idoma as a referee.

More surprisingly is the blatant attempt by Signal to skew this document to become something it is not. Would they now say because the form also contained the name of a Junior Minister in the current Ghanian Government, and who from his dealings with Comrade Onjeh is ready to attest to the stellar character of Comrade Onjeh, he is the one sponsoring Daniel Onjeh? They couldn’t even dare make that argument because they knew it was ludicrously illogical and silly.

In an attempt to deceive the people to believe in their war cry where no war existed between the peoples of Benue State, they fail to include the page where the name of Chief Audu Ogbe was also included as one of the Referees.

This is falsehood in the highest order and it is unbecoming of the campaign of an individual to whom, the noble people of zone C has given their trust for the last 16 and half years to clutch at straws with this. If they were not afraid that their lies would show, they should have published the whole form for the world to see.

It is our firm belief that elections cannot be won on falsehood. It should be won on issues. It is time for Senator Mark to give an account of his stewardship. He should come out clean on the RAMP issue and all other sundry allegations of corruption hanging over his head like the Sword of Damocles.

Comrade Onjeh is his own man. Even Senator David Mark knows that. He knows that his inability to compromise Comrade Onjeh to drop his ambition is the source of his hatred for him. Onjeh is not being sponsored by another.

He is sponsoring himself. If any of his party members give him support, it is nothing but a plus. What Idoma needs is a man who can bridge the gap between the Idoma and the Tiv rather than a warlord as David Mark is painting himself to be.
Let it also be known that they are friends and not enemies and of course when one is contesting for anything, one uses his friends as referees.
