The traditional leader of Idoma community, HRM, Elias Ekoyi Obekpa, the Och’Idoma IV has stated that royal fathers should be allowed to select political leaders.According to him, royal fathers stand the better position of selecting credible leaders for political offices unlike the electorates.

Chief Obekpa made this remark at the weekend when the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming rerun in Benue South, Dan Onjeh paid him a homage in his palace in Otukpo.

He equally warned the major contenders in the coming rerun, David Mark and Dan Onjeh to avoid violence before, during and after the poll.

He said, “I want to tell you that the gods of the land will hear your prayer and grant you your heart desire. As a royal father, we have been advised to stay clear partisan politics. So I can only bless you as my son ad wish you success in during the election.
“However, I think we royal fathers should be allowed to select political leaders because we stand the better chance of selecting trustworthy people.

On the forthcoming rerun, the monarch father said, “I want you to understand that the coming election is not a do or die affair. If you don’t win today, you might win tomorrow. We have many contestants, but only one person constitution allows to win.

“Only one thing I am pleading with you and your opponent, who is equally your brother is that this election should be a brotherly contest. I don’t want loss of lives or property before, during and after the election,” the royal father warned.
