A pro-democracy group, Benue Elite Development Network (BENNETWORK) has congratulated the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Dr. Samuel Ortom on his recent victory at the apex court.

In a statement via the Public Relations Officer of the organization, Comrade Omaga E. Daniel, the group described the judgment as a victory for the Benue people and not for Ortom or his party, urging him to be magnanimous in victory.

The organization commended the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the April 2015 governorship election, Rt. Hon. Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, PhD for his decision to toe the path of justice instead of resorting to violence and unwarranted protests as seen in some other states of the federation.

“We are also using this opportunity to call on the supporters of Tarzoor and Ortom to put aside political sentiments and join hands for the progress of the state and to further desist from making derogatory statements that might result to any breach of peace in the state. Tarzoor has shown that he is a lover of peace and Benue state by congratulating the governor. Both candidates have moved on and we expect their supporters to follow suit. We need to be united for development if we must attain the Benue of our dream” he said.

Speaking further, Comrade Omaga urged the governor to extend the amnesty programme to the Benue – South senatorial district of the state considering the volatile peace and security of the zone where kidnapping activities and other forms of criminalities have suddenly taken the centre stage. “Also, considering the manner in which the polity of Benue-south is been heated up due to the forthcoming senatorial rerun elections, it has become paramount and urgent for the government to get rid of every form of ammunitions across the region to avoid a repetition of such events that accompanied the just concluded Bayelsa state gubernatorial elections ” he said.

He pointed out that most of the cultists who were put out of business within the state capital as a result of the governor’s amnesty program appear to have regrouped in the Zone C axis of the state where they have continued to kill, kidnap, bugle and terrorize unsuspecting members of the public to meet up their demands for livelihood.
