Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on the Federal Government to retain the Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies, NAITES, in Makurdi.
Governor Ortom made the call when the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Engineering, NASME, Major General A. O. Sodunke paid him a courtesy visit at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.

He said there had been rumours recently regarding a planned relocation of the institute, urging the army not to effect such a relocation.
Governor Ortom commended the Nigerian military for its courageous fight against insurgents and urged them to sustain the tempo.

He pledged the support of his administration to the army and other security agencies in ensuring the security of lives and property and directed his Special Adviser on Security, Colonel Edwin Jando, retired, to liaise with the army commandant to facilitate the resumption of military surveillance in parts of the state.

On the attack on innocent persons in the North Bank area of Makurdi last year by some soldiers, Governor Ortom reiterated his call for compensation for victims of the attack.
Earlier, the Commandant General Sodunke assured Governor Ortom that they will not relent in ensuring that there is border and waterways security in the state.

He sought the assistance of the State Government to resume land and aerial patrols as well as the repair of the North Bank-NASME road.
General Sodunke thanked Governor Ortom for assisting NASME in several ways since he assumed office especially in the area of power supply.
