Stop wailing, no one is planning to kill you - Ortom replies Mark

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has dismissed the recent media reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has hired thugs to kidnap former Senate President, David Mark, ahead of the February 20 Benue South Senatorial District rerun.

Ortom, who spoke on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, described the reports as “completely untrue, malicious and unfounded”.

According to him, nobody is interested in such a thing.

He said: “If you will recall, since my assumption of office as governor, I banned all forms of thuggery and recovered arms in the hands of unauthorised persons.”

The governor assured the electorate in the senatorial district of adequate security to guarantee their safety during and after the polls.

He urged the people of the state to disregard such false alarm and go about their legitimate affairs without fear of molestation.

Ortom also said security personnel had been deployed to curtail a further outbreak of hostilities between herdsmen and farmers in Agatu.

He appealed to both parties to sheath their swords and work together to promote their well being.

He blamed the persistent skirmishes on the non demarcation of grazing lands due to population expansion and growth of modern cities.
