Benue State Government has called for  continuous prayers, support and understanding over the financial challenges facing the state.

Speaking at the 2016 Annual convention of the God’s People Chapel, Gboko, Sunday, Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu stated that pulling the state out of the economic hole it was pushed into by the last administration requires divine intervention, as according to him, the Suswam administration plundered and bled the state comatose.

Engr Abounu lamented the current financial difficulties facing the state disclosed that whereas the developmental needs of the state continues to increase, the revenue accruing to her has been on a continuous downward slide.

According to him, while the monthly wage bill of the state civil servants is N4.2 billion and that of the local government staff N3.5 billion, the total allocation to the state has been in the region of N2 biillion since August last year; a short fall of N2.2 billion each every month for both state and local government staff.

He said there is nothing to hide about the financial position of the state, credits the Ortom administration with running an open and transparent government and of opening its record books to the leadership of the workers union in the state.

Abounu stated that every month, the workers leadership sits with government, take a look at what accrues to the state vis-a-vis their salaries and then decides on the action to take.

The Deputy Governor who was full of thanks to the Almighty God for His blessings to the state reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Samuel Ortom to running a government firmly anchored on the fear of the Lord.
