About 5,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dumped the party and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Benue state saying they cannot belong to opposition politics.

According to Leadership, the defectors included PDP in the MINDA extraction of the Benue North-west senatorial district. The PDP members burnt their membership cards and held the broom to mark their decamping to APC.
Several political units including political clubs and associations in MINDA as well traditional groups were led into the APC fold at the JS Tarka foundation in Makurdi.
