Increase In BSU fees: Benue Assembly summons commissioner, VC

Written By Idoma Television on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 | 12:03:00 AM

Barely a week after the students of Benue State University, Makurdi protested the arbitrary increase of school fees, the Benue State House of Assembly yesterday summoned the commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Denis Ityavyar and the vice chancellor, Prof. Msugh Kembe to appear before it.

The commissioner and VC were to appear before the assembly today (Wednesday) at 10.00am, to explain the recent arbitrary increase in the amount of money paid as conditional charges by students of the institution.

This is even as the vice chancellor, Kembe would as a matter of necessity, appear alongside his principal officers to explain why the management decided to inflict more pains on Benue people by the hike despite the current harsh economic climate in the state.

This was the outcome of the plenary in Makurdi, yesterday. The lawmakers however, appealed to students,  parents and the people of the state to remain calm as they were determined to ensure amicable resolution of the matter.

The speaker, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange read the resolutions of the House after a debate on motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Gboko west constituency, Mr. Terhemba Chabo,  who lamented the recent hike in the conditional charges by the management of the university.
