If determination has human face, both of them would bear same semblance.
Friday Iwodi Adoga is a man with a large heart. Call him the Ojotuyela of Ogbadibo and you won’t be faulted.
This young, vibrant and down-to-earth man has a burning desire. His dream is to make Ogbadibo Local Government Area the beautiful bride of Benue, nay, Nigeria.
Pinched by this Lutheran dream, Iwodi has joined the race for the forthcoming chairmanship position of Ogbadibo Local Government.
One would wonder why would a successful man who has traversed the length and breadth of the globe decided to play politics, he would tell you, “we can make Ogbadibo the home for all.”
In a recent encounter with IDOMA VOICE team in his Abuja office, the real estate expert believes that it was high time the injuries inflicted on the land by some selfish persons were healed.
The young businessman in this tell-it-all interview explains to our team why he joined the race and other issues.
Can we meet you?
My name is Iwodi Adogo Friday, from Ai-Odo Ward II in Otukpa, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State. I am a business man, into real estate consultancy.
Last week, you declared your intent to run for the Ogbadibo LG chairmanship race, how was the occasion?
The occasion was awesome and it was a wonderful moment for me. I was privildged to meet with my lovely people in Otukpa, Orokam and Owukpa to inform them of my intention to pilot the affairs of the entity called Ogbadibo. I was happy to see both young and old people all trooping out to identify with my political ambition.
What was the reaction of the people?
Well, it was very encouraging. Very very encouraging I must confess. I told them that this decision to join the chairmanship race was not for personal interest rather an avenue to serve my people and equally heal the injuries that have been inflicted on the land by some persons.
During the occasion, I just made two requests to the people, first and foremost is asked them to pray that the dream that God has given to me for the Ogbadibo people would be realized. I also sought their consent to give me the mandate to run on the platform of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.
Why the APC?
Because I believe in change. I don’t believe in the other parties, I believe that if you are in power for 16 years and you cannot touch lives why would I associate myself with such people?
For instance, if a local government chairman under the umbrella of the PDP could not tare a 10 kilometre road for the Ogbadibo people, why should I associate myself with such party which lacks the vision and the idea on what to do for their people? Because from my research, there is a provision in the constitution which empowers the local government chairman to tare a 10km road in his constituency. Amazingly, we have gone through the local government and I realized that the longest road we have in Ogbadibo is 1.8km and for 16 years, not just one kilometer was done.
Tell us what our people should expect from you once the mandate is given?
I give you an example. I like the United States of America, particularly Altanta Georgia, there is a local government there called Decatur County. This local government was able to build one of the largest airports in the US.
They were able to access with they called European Bond. They were also able to generate the money borrowed from the bond in the same local government. This local government has made tremendous developments in Atlanta Georgia. Then when I go back into the country, I decided to look at the constitution to find out what differentiate Decatur County from Ogbadibo.
After a careful observation, I noted that it is the same provision with that of Nigeria. I want to make Ogbadibo envious of all. I want to replcate what the Mayor of Decatur County did in Altlanta Georgia.
I can use the European Bond to Develop Ogbadibo. I go partner with NGOs to improve the health sector, I can create employment. For instance, I go into partnership with international agencies to come and invest in our land.
There are arguments in some quarters that the immediate past deputy governor of Benue State, Steve Lawani is from your Ward, and they are using it against you
Let me quickly correct that, deputy governor’s slot was not Ai Odo slot but for the entire zone c and it is not zoning system. That is why today, the current deputy governor, Benson Abounu is from the same zone with the senator representing out district. It is not for not Otukpa or Ogbadibo.
What are your chances of clinching the APC ticket?
I keep saying this to people. I am Christian, I believe in God. Power belongs to God and nobody is enthroned except God approves it. If David could be made a leader from the bush I am very sure victory is ours.
