Popular comedian and activist, Enenche Obonyilo Peters, otherwise known as Enenche Enenche has paid a glowing tribute to the late former minister of information and communication, Dora Nkem Akunyili
Akunyili passed away two years ago after a protracted battle with cancer.
Remembering Dora, whom he always refer to as ‘Mummy’, the multiple award winning MC said the late former NAFDAC DG left a big vacuum that no one has been able to fill.
Enenche poured out his heart in a moving article entitled MAKURDI TO INDIA; AN INSPIRING JOURNEY OF LIFE AND DEATH.
The elegy reads thus:
Today, makes it two years that our Amazon slept to wake up someday. A life that started at railway quarters in Makurdi on the 14th of July, 1954 ended in far away India on this day in 2014.
Today, we celebrate her inspiring journey with us when she demonstrated uncommon and rare leadership qualities while walking and working with us.
She taught us that honesty and integrity pays when she refunded a money that she could have possibly kept and no one would have known.
She gave us life, when she fought those who were killing us with fake drugs. She stood her grounds, survived a bullet hole that pierced her scalf, in all she lead a nation to victory against the fake drugs.
She taught us that success is never a prerequisite for divorce when she submitted to her husband and marriage even till death.
In her we saw what faith looks like. She had faith in us, even when we lacked faith among ourselves. In the face of despair and hopelessness, she saw a greater future and summoned courage to mount podiums to tell those who cared that; NIGERIA GOOD PEOPLE GREAT NATION.
She taught us what love for fatherland and patriotism looks like when she defiled medical decorum to storm a national conference to show a generation and nation the way forward.
Though, she is no more, but her rich patriotic humanitarian credentials live with us today.
She lived her life defending us, she spoke for us when others would not dare to open their mouth.
She stood for us, where fear would not allow many to stand.
She once took a risk, to open our eyes when she told us that cabals have hijacked our nation...For us, she went this far.
We can never thank her enough for her cherished life she invested in ours.
May her labour never be in vain...join me celebrate her memory.
Continue to Rest In Peace; Mummy Dora Nkem Akunyili.
