As the late Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Rev. Fr. John Adeyi prepares for his final home journey, the All Progressives Congress chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming LG election in Ogbadibo, John Echeija Agene has paid a glowing tribute to the deceased.

A visibly bereaved Agene while lamenting the untimely demise of the reverend gentleman said, the late Adeyi would forever be remembered as one of the pioneers of the gospel in the Idoma enclave.
In a statement entitled ‘A star is gone’ and obtained by IDOMA VOICE, Agene reminisced how the late Adeyi founded the Inyilowo Foundation and mentored younger generation.

He wondered why would a cleric be abducted and killed for no tangible reason, “is there politics in the church now?” he asked rhetorically.

According to him, “I am yet to come to terms with the reality that Fr Adeyi is gone. This was a man that was even close to pagans while alive. He never discriminates. He was a renowned and peace-loving man who could go extra-mile for gospel sake. I am one of his closest pals because we both grew up together and in fact, brought up in the same community – Otukpa.

“His death is no demise is no doubt a big blow on us and he would forever be remembered propagating the gospel.

“Our parents were brought up together in the Catholic background. Those days a white Catholic was like ‘God’ to us, so when he became Priest, we felt like we have own ‘God.’

In fact, I remember the song we use to sing those days when he became a priest (Joni oyine mee anya, Owoicho leya lalo, Otukpa lufada le). Himself sang a song etitled “INTILOWO”, which gave birth to his Inyilowo Foundation.

“He was a father to the core, his only concern was the well being of others and the home beyond. We have seen priest come and start taking money to build houses in their villages, it was different with him. I am not sure he built any to his name.

“He was a father to even the pagans, not condemning them but using the means to reach out to them and preaching to them as well. This was why God lifted him in no time.

“My pain is that I feel like there’s politics now in the church of God. “Is there politics in the church now?” he asked. “How can a well renowned priest of the catholic diocese of Otukpo be kidnapped until he was killed and I am yet to hear anything said by the church about his kidnap or his death, what is really going on?” he cried out.

“I know he is well rested in the kingdom of God, but the church did not honor him well. The family is not even carried along with this burial arrangement, I asked the elder brother of the deceased about the burial, and he said he was shocked to hear about the arrangement himself, so goes for the first daughter in the family.

“The people of Odokwupe in Otukpa need to be carried along. That’s more reason I believe something else is going on here.

“The bible said in the book Lamentation 3:37 warned about who want to say a thing when God did not say it. We should be careful how we handle the things of God. God will surely bring everything to light, and that is done, things will turn around and this kind of hideous act will never happen again in Idoma land.”
