Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said only 22 people were killed in herdsmen attacks of communities in the state in the last two weeks.
Recall that the traditional ruler of Logo, Chief Jimmy Meeme, on Channels Television claimed that about 81 persons were killed in six out of the 10 council wards in his domain.
Following the comment, the spokesman of the Benue State Police Command, ASP Moses Yamu, dismissed the figures, insisting that only 22 deaths were recorded in Logo and Ukum local government areas.
Governor Ortom while speaking on Nigerian Television Authority, NTA after his visit to the Interior Minister, Gen Abdulrahman Danbazzau yesterday to discuss security issues affecting Benue agreed with the figures given by the police.
He said it was untrue up to 81 people have died in Benue from attacks on communities. He put the number of recent deaths at 15, 5 and 2, corroborating the figures given by the police.
He blamed the situation on farmers and herders, saying both sides were equally guilty of criminality, attacks and killing.
