An Idoma woman, who gave her name as Ene Okpani has cried out to the general public on how she was brutalized by a Tiv man for laughing at him.

Okpani said she was inside her car while the accused was riding on a motorcycle when the latter suddenly jumped down  and descended on her in a Commando style, dashing her countless blows, claiming she was laughing at him for riding at her.

The helpless woman got her right side eye badly damaged.
She said, “Yes ths is what a tiv guy did to me today, saying I was laughing in d car, while he was on a motorcycle dat he must kill me, he will tell me dat Mkd is his town. Well d police in zone 4 had taken charge of d case. To God be d glory.

News reports like this is capable of creating bad blood among ethnic groups. We must first ask ourselves a very simple and logical question(s). 1) Is Idoma as a tribe written on this woman's face? 2) Did the woman's beater committed this act because he discovered the woman is Idoma? We as civilized people shouldcbe vanguards of peaceful coexistence rather than heightening tension. I want all of us to note that on the table where Benue allocation is being shared by our corrupt leaders, you will find possibly equal number of Tiv, Idoma and possibly Igede. You may equally find Christians and Muslims. I don't know why we the common people usually carry these things on our head.

I think this is a wrong caption earned at either discrediting an ethnic group or creating unnecessary tension. Did the okada rider sought to know the woman's tribe before descending on her? Is there any label on the woman's face to identify her as an Idoma woman? I think such reportage are unprofessional or else may be we are dealing with ethnic bigots here. I am an ardent follower of your blog because it has become a very vital source of Benue information to me since I am not in the state. But with this kind of report I am already thinking twice.

I don't think ethnic toning of reports does any good in promoting peace and good neighbourliness. Let's mind of sentiments please.
