The people of Owukpa, one of the three districts that formed Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State have lamented what they termed ‘outright exclusion’ from scheme of things in Benue.

The people claimed that the current government under the leadership of Governor Samuel Ortom in Benue State has not appointed anybody from the community since it came into power last year.

Speaking during a press conference in Kaduna, chairman of Aje’Owukpa Forum, a top social cultural group in the community, Anyebe Thaddeus said from every indication, the governor does not regard Owukpa as part of Benue.

According to him, aside appointment, the governor also skipped the community when he recently awarded some roads in Benue for construction.

“Since this current government came on board, Owukpa has not benefited anything. We have been expunged from scheme of things in Benue.

“When he awarded some road across the 23 LGAs in the state for construction, he skipped Owukpa.

“During his appointments too, he couldn’t find anyone qualified enough from Owukpa as part of his cabinet.”

Anyebe said the statement became imperative following the recent appointment of sole administrators for LG councils across the state where Owukpa was also robbed.

“This government has never regarded us as part of Benue and it is sad. When he appointed a caretaker committees twice, he didn’t see anybody worthy from Owukpa. Now he has appointed sole administrator for Ogbadibo, nobody from Owukpa was considered for the position.

“This was same Owukpa that voted overwhelmingly for the APC during the last election.” He lamented.

He said appointing Akola James,  a native of Otukpa as Ogbadibo Sole Administrator was unfair, considering the fact that the current Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, immediate past deputy governor, Steve Lawani as well as the current APC chairman in Benue, Abba Yaro all hailed from the place.
