Members of Opiatoha K’ idoma, have strongly kicked against the prolonged detention of Barrister Godwin Obla (SAN) by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The Commission recently slammed 30 charges against a Federal High Court judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia; and Obla.

Obla is the first and only Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, from the Idoma enclave.

The social cultural organisation, championing the course of Idoma kingdom within the Benue South senatorial district, said contrary to constitutional provision, Obla has been in custody for almost two weeks.
A statement by the Secretary General of the umbrella body, Chief Adoka Adaji, called on the operatives of EFCC to release Obla with immediate effect or at best, charge him to competent court of law.

He said, “we are saddened that Barrister Obla who has always exhibited diligent conduct, could be humiliated in this manner by the EFCC whose cases he had handled with utmost best”.

Chief Adaji stated that while the Opiatoha k’idoma, does not support corruption in any way, EFCC must show decorum in its anti-graft war, adding that the battle will be lost if impunity becomes the order of the day.
The organisation maintained that Obla is held in high esteem in Idoma nation and any attempt to rubbish him would not be condoned.
