After many years of protracted leadership tussle, history was made Saturday as peace was brokered among warring movie makers in Idoma land.

This was followed by an intervention by a group under the aegis of Idoma Film Unity Forum chaired by Gabriel Owoicho (Kpakanyi).

The meeting, which took place in Abuja, was well attended actors, producers, directors and stakeholders in the local industry.

The meeting, which was aimed at restoring lasting peace to the crisis rocking the industry; kicked-started with an opening prayer led by Agada ‘Manex’ Johnson.

The chairman, reconciliation committee, Gabriel Owoicho in his welcome address, appreciated all members who came from far and near to be part of the peace talks.

He acknowledged the humility and kindness of the committee secretary Mr. Prince Yemi Itodo who had worked patiently to ensure the meeting comes to pass.

The chairman in his speech used an article written by journalist, Ameh Comrade Godwin (Azikiwe) entitled Who killed the Idoma movie industry? as template for the meeting.

After reading carefully through the write-up, participants were pleased and asked to take necessary moves that would bring peace to the industry.

On his part, ace cinematographer, Daniel David Akpa said love remains the mechanism that will promote unity among Idoma people, especially those in the creative industry.
He also said that members of the make-believe industry should all desist from sectionalism in the Idomaland because it has caused more havocs than good.

Akpa, who is believed to be the first pioneer producer of what is now labeled as first top class flick in the community many years, said instead of pointing accusing fingers on anyone, the way forward is unity.

Also reacting, Godwin Ochola, otherwise known as  St. Godwins said that, “love and passion’’ is what kept him till date.

Another member, Gideon Ameh said that with the presence of Manex Johnson Agada, all problems are over.

Agada Johnson on his part said that humility pays much in all human society and also the best developmental mechanism. He also said we should plant a tree for our children to benefit from and went ahead to acknowledges Ameh Comrade Godwin for the wonderful write up which eventually becomes today meeting template.

Manex moved a motion for a new and general name for industry.

He suggested the industry should be christened ’IDOMAWOOD’ which was coined by the Ameh in his write up in 2010.

The house all nodded in affirmation to the new name and it was signed and sealed.

A welcome development to the Idomaland of our dreams. But, i must ask this simple question in regard the article. Must every movie industry in Nigeria add wood to it name?

We can show others that we are different even though the Idoma film industry is still clinically aligned to the Nigeria Film industry aka Nollywood. Idomawood, the wood addition doesn't portray anything worth celebration, but if that will bring lasting peace to the warring factions in the industry to put Our culture, Tradition and heritage first in a spotlight for Nigerians and the world to see our rich culture and tradition would be a delight for every sons and daughter of this great tribe call Idoma.
May God continue to bind us in unity, peace, love and harmony Amen.
