2016 in retrospect: Deaths that shook Ortom’s administration in Benue State

Barely five months into the year 2016, one of the biggest tragedies hit the Samuel Ortom-led government with the gruesome murder of his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Security to Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, Mr. Denen Igbana.

Igbana was said to have been killed along Tionsha settlement, a suburb of Makurdi, while on his way from an official assignment.

The people of Benue State, especially the Idoma community will not forget in a hurry the abduction and murder of the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Rev Fr John Adeyi.

The cleric was abducted along the ever-busy Otukpo-Otukpa road on his way from Ogbadibo where he had gone to settle a rift in a local church.

His abductors eventually murdered and dumped his corpse in a farm in Otukpa after collecting ransom from the family.

Wilfred Aondosoo

In August, another tragedy hit the state government with the murder  a university lecturer identified as Hon. Wilfred Aondosoo Tondo.

Tondo, a lecturer in the department of Political Science at the University of Mkar, Benue State was shot dead at staff quarters of the institution by unknown gunmen

He was pronounced dead at the Benue State Teaching Hospital Makurdi where he was rushed to. He was also a top contender in the Buruku chairmanship race on the platform of the APC.

Joshua Imanche

Towards the tail end of 2016, the state government received with shocks the demise of a Senior Special Assistant to the Benue state Governor on Security, Capt. Joshua Imanche.

Imanche, native of Ogule Kaduna, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State died of undisclosed ailment.
