Christian Aid UK reveals what kills children in Benue State

Christian Aid UK, Nigeria, in collaboration with the Benue State ministry of Health and Human services has identified malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea as the major infant killer diseases in the state.

The intervention which is funded by UK Aid -DFID is to kick off in four local government areas, which include Konshisha, Kwande, Obi and Okpokwu, with the aim to stem the high infant mortality in the state.
To this effect,  a steering committee on Integrated Community Case Management, (ICCM) has been inaugurated to work tirelessly to ensure a drastic reduction of under five mortality by these killer diseases.

Performing the inauguration at the ministry of Health and Human services, on behalf of the commissioner, the permanent secretary, Dr Joseph Kumba lamented the high infant mortality rate in Nigeria and the state, saying, with the inauguration of the state steering committee on ICCM, facilities will be more closer to communities for easy accessibility.

According to him, results have shown that 44 percent of infant mortality in Nigeria is caused by Diarrhea, Pneumonia and Malaria.
