Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom today signed a law that will pave way for the establishment of a Sports Marketing and Lottery Board.

The law was recently passed by the Benue State House of Assembly following a request from the State Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Performing the ceremony at the Old Banquet Hall of the Peoples House, Makurdi, Governor Ortom said the establishment of the board would transform sports into a revenue yielding enterprise and regulate lottery activities in the state.

The Governor who gave assurance that the board would soon be constituted, commended the State House of Assembly for its speedy consideration of the bill.

He maintained that with the dwindling revenue from the federation account, creative ways like the Sports Marketing and Lottery Board were required to boost the economy and create employment opportunities for the youths.

Earlier, Speaker of the State House Assembly, Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange expressed optimism that implementation of the law would yield revenue and add value to the economy of the state.
He restated the willingness of the state legislature to support the executive arm in all development initiatives.
