Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has asked security agents to rise up to their responsibilities and ensure that the perpetrators of the massacre of innocent people in Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State are made  to feel the full weight of the law.


The former Vice President who expressed pain at the continued pepetration of violent acts against innocent people in Tiv land and other parts of the country, noted that peace is the only pedestal, upon which meaningful development can be built.

In a statement issued by the his Media Office yesterday, Atiku  urged security agencies and their managers to step up to their responsibilities and ensure that the perpetrators of the wicked and inhuman acts are be made to feel the full weight of the law.

He reiterated the need for more harmonious living amongst Nigerians who must see themselves as their brothers’ keepers.

Atiku also noted  only a few weeks ago, Nigerians from all parts had converged on the city of Gboko to witness the coronation of Tor Tiv The 5th, HRH Professor James Ayatse where everyone had only good wishes for the great Tiv Nation.

He further expressed dismay that only a few weeks afterwards crises purportedly involving the Fulani and The Tiv erupted in Buruku. Whilst calling for all leaders of thought, traditional and political to come together to chart a part to peace in this recurring sad tales, he urged the security agencies to improve in their observation of the movement of people and goods to enhance the needed security watch.

He lamented the recent crises in Buruku and its environs, as he describes the perpetrators of the heinous acts as brigands who must be brought to justice.

Atiku who holds the highest traditional title the Zege Mule U Tiv commiserated with the people of Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area, the Tiv people and indeed the Government and good people of Benue State over the recent attacks by yet to be identified gun men in which precious lives were lost.

While insisting that peace is the only pedestal, upon which meaningful development can be built upon, Atiku condemned “these acts in their entirety and prays for the repose of the souls of those who needlessly lost their lives, and also prays for peace in Tiv land, in Benue State and throughout Nigeria”.
