Benue workers go on strike as Ortom refuses to pay salaries

The organized Labour in Benue State has directed all workers in the state to commence indefinite strike as from October 3rd 2017.
The Chairman of the state Chapter of NLC Comr Godwin Antarctic , TUC Chairman Comr Ordue Tartenger and JPNC1/2/3 Chairman Philip Nongo gave the order in a press release issued at the end of their meeting.

The Labour Leaders in the state directed all workers to embark on an indefinite strike after the state government failed to meet the demands of workers and penshioners at the end of a 7 day warning strike.

The leaders also disclosed that they have decided to embark on the strike which commenses on 3rd Oct to press home their demands for the payments below
7 months arrears for state workers March -September 2017.
11 months arrears of salaries for Teachers and local government workers November 2016-September 2017 .
13 months arrears for pensions and gratuity Nov 2014- April 2015 and March 2017-September 2017 for state and 14 months for local government pensions August 2016- September 2017.
The leaders also reiterated their rejection of a government circular Signed by the dep gov directing workers to submit their bank statement ,they chided the government for threatening workers if they fail to comply and urged them embark on strike.
They commended the National leadership of NLC lead by Comr Ayuba Wabba for who led a powerful delegation to the state to support the state unions.
