Meet Idoma indigenes making us proud in football (PHOTOS)

It was a popular journalist, Azuh Amatus who once described Idoma community as ‘talent base of the nation’.

No doubt, Idoma community has churned out worthy and prominent children who are doing excellently well in their chosen careers.

Today, IDOMA VOICE profiles some Idoma natives who are making the land proud in soccer.

This list is endless but here are the top 10.

Tony Ujah
Popular known as Drogba, Orokam-born Super Eagles player, Anthony Ujah has been likened to his kinsman, Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi because of his fast pace and energy.

He’s a younger brother to the popular London-based Dr. West Adoyi Ujah.

Ujah currently plies his trade with Union FC of Germany.

Ogenyi Eddy Onazi
Ogenyi Eddy Onazi is a Nigerian footballer who plays as a central midfielder for the Nigeria national football team.
He was part of the 2014 World Cup team in Brazil.
The midfield marshal is from Ado LGA.

Moses Simon
Moses Simon Ejegwa is from Obagaji in Agatu LGA of Benue State.
He plays for Nigeria Levante in Spain.

Nazim Amokachi and Kalim Amokachi  – The Amokachis
Nazim Amokachi and Kalim Amokachi wrote their names on 1-year contracts and move to Turkish champions, Besiktas.

The brothers are both attacking minded players and are able to play as central forwards and as wingers. Unfortunately they didn’t have a chance to play any matches with JS Hercules before joining Besiktas, but their professional attitude and technical abilities at trainings were rated high by Hercules coaching staff as well as by their team mates.

They hailed from Otukpa.

Jerome Ochigbo
Fast-rising Idoma-born footballer, Jerome Ochigbo is currently signed by a top Spanish club in Madrid.

The talented left fullback joined Rayo Vallecano de Madrid FC in the Segunda División last year after completing his medicals.

He’s from Ichama in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State.

Samson Ogbu Abah
Vaxjo United, which campaigns in the third division of the Swedish League, recently completed the signing of Nigerian striker Samson Ogbu Abah on a six months deal.

Abbah impressed in trials at the club where he scored four goals in six games at the club and has now been rewarded with a contract until the end of the season.

The striker was a fringe member of the 2017 Golden Eaglet team that failed to qualify for the CAF African U-17 tournament in Gabon after they lost to Niger on a 1-1 goals aggregate.
Abah joins Vaxjo United from Achievas Football Academy in Lagos and the 18 year old striker, who is to wear the No.32 jersey, has resumed training with the first team according to a statement on the club’s official website.

Joshua Oche
Joshua Oche Abah born in 1999 currently plays for MFM FC.
Others include, Oche Salifu, Edoka Owoicho.
