The National Association of Idoma Students (NAIS), on Wednesday 10th March, 2021, honoured the Chief Executive Officer of the TheNigerian News Group, Chief Philip Agbese, with an award of excellence.

The group, during a courtesy visit to the organisation’s corporate headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, said the award is in recognition of his notable impact in the area of education, youth empowerment and social development.

Presenting the award to Chief Agbese, who is a House of Representatives hopeful for Ado/Ogbadigbo/Okpokwu federal constituency, NAIS president, Comrade Ford Oche John Ubah, said the body is fully behind his quest to represent his people in the ‘green chamber’.

Ford, in the company of his deputy, Comrade Ogwiji John Ogbe, the NAIS Senate President Comrade David Okoh, the NAIS Ochanya Comrade Comfort Agbo, the Miss NAIS Comrade Theresa Agbo and other NAIS national executives assured the ‘Okanga of Agila’ of victory in the polls come 2023.

“This award of excellence is in recognition of your generosity and magnificent gestures in Idomaland and the country at large,” Ford said.

The student body, NAIS, also conferred its lifetime membership on the UK-trained Legal Practitioner, Journalist and human rights Activist, Chief Agbese.

In reaction, Chief Agbese dedicated the Award to President Muhammadu Buhari for his giant strides, especially in the area of education.
He noted that for the first time in history, Benue South, his place of origin, has two federal tertiary educational institutions, a Federal University and a College of Education, established in one stretch under President Buhari.

Agbese recalled his journey as a young man scrapping the barrels at the University of Ilorin, dropping out during his final year but moved on against all odds to study Law at the Middlesex University London up to Masters Degree level. He said his experience should challenge every Nigerian student, saying that academic set back in school should not make any student to give up in life or make anyone to take to crime as there are always opportunities to turn around every challenge to success.

According to Chief Agbese, ” education is the only leveller that provides the avenue for the poor and rich to be equated”.

He stated that the ICT centre under construction in Apa Agila of Ado LGA in Benue being sponsored by him is just a tip of what to come as he promised to replicate same in each of the 35 wards in his constituency.

Mr Agbese also paid tribute to the lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Sen Abba Moro, a former Minister of State, Niger Delta, Dr Sam Ode and other noble sons of Idomalamd.

He urged the student body to identify with other distinguished sons and daughters of Idoma land who are thriving in various fields of endeavour ” so that they can also key into the developmental project of Idomaland”.
